Research Activities

  • Establishment of rainwater harvesting micro-catchments structures in orchard at BARI
  • Developing orchard of olive and citrus with drip irrigation system through water collected from rooftop harvesting structure

  • Using solar panel for the purpose of pumping water for irrigation for various vegetable crops, like: chilies, tomato, potato and onion
  • Introducing efficient irrigation system (drip/bubbler) for various row crops and for orchard plants  at BARI as well as on Farmer’s field for the purpose of water saving in comparison flood irrigation
  • Irrigating and developing olive orchard through drip irrigation method

  • Sowing of wheat and cotton on raised bed and ridges for the purpose of water saving and yield increasing at BARI and farmer’s field.

  • Established rainwater harvesting micro catchment structure for olive and peaches which utilizes 80% of rain water efficiently

  • Developed/installed bubbler irrigation method for olive, peaches and citrus which saves more than 60% of water by increasing 20% yield in comparison with a flood irrigation

  • Introduced drip irrigation system for cotton, onion, chilies and potato which saves more than 50% of water by giving 20-30% increase in yield as compared to flood irrigation method
  • Introduced drip irrigation system in tunnel technology for tomato at BARI, which save 63% of water by increasing 17% yield as compared to flood irrigation
  • Analyzed economically all the water saving techniques and presented best technique to the farmer

Publication

  • “Simulating Cotton Water Production Function Using AquaCrop Model” will be published in IJAB.

Project

  • A USDA funded project “Watershed Rehabilitation and Irrigation Improvement: Demonstration in Pakistan and Disseminating the best Technologies to help Rural Farmer” under the supervision of ICARDA is working under the umbrella of Engineering Wing at BARI
  • Many trials are also working on farmer’s field like, micro-catchment structures, drip/bubbler irrigation on vegetables/orchard plants, wheat and cotton on raised bed and ridges under this project.
